NON EXPLOSIVE BLASTS FOR ROCK EXCAVATION

Fully certified as a non-explosive device; the Cardox CO2 System is extensively used for rock breaking, concrete breaking, tunnel excavation, trench excavation, general open cut excavation, foundation excavation, underwater excavation and quarrying.

The Cardox CO2 System is a reliable blasting solution particularly in areas which are located within sensitive environments, where the use of explosives is prohibited.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

Cardox tubes are filled with liquid carbon dioxide (exactly the same as a fire extinguisher).  When energised by the application of a small electrical charge, a chemical heater instantly converts the liquid CO₂ to a gas. This conversion rapidly expands the CO₂ volume and builds up pressure inside the tube until it causes a rupture disc at the end of the tube to burst. Thereby releasing the CO₂ (now 600 times the original volume) through a specially designed discharge nozzle to create a powerful heaving force at pressures up to 40 000 psi (3000 bar) and breaking any surrounding material. The power of the blast is regulated to suit different applications by carefully selecting the thickness of the rapture disc that is used.

Applications:

  • Rock Breaking

  • Trenching

  • Tunnelling

  • Shaft Sinking

  • Concrete Demolition

  • Underwater Excavation

  • The Cardox System is also widely used for silo cleaning and for effectively clearing system build-ups in with minimal process disruptions in various industries.
