Dickinson Group of Companies Completes a Major Turnkey Furnace Rebuild Project

Dickinson Group of Companies recently completed a major Turnkey Furnace Rebuild project for a 13.5 MVA Circular Arc Furnace in Southern Africa.

The scope of the project included replacing the entire furnace crucible and partially replacing the wrap-around equipment including the grillage beams, the furnace shell, the infill refractories, the upper and lower hearths, the furnace walls, the furnace roof refractories and the tertiary roof support steel. A new matte tapping floor was then installed to accommodate the addition of a third matte taphole and launder in order to improve tapping ergonomics. Minor modifications to the building bracing were also implemented, including the removal and reinstallation of the slag return launder and replacing the support beam for the slag return launder.

The project was executed safely with a diversified labour compliment, of both locals and expats; an excess of 200 employees completed the project in over 150 000 man hours with no serious incidents and no recordable injuries throughout the project. The company was also recently awarded a safety award for best safety performance out of numerous contractors by major mineral processing client on another project.
