catalyst handling services for mining, metal smelting and mineral processing industries

CATALYST HANDLING SERVICES

DGC provides highly specialized Catalyst Handling Services to the mining, metal smelting, and mineral processing industries across sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.

The company’s heavy-duty catalyst handling equipment, experienced and well-trained personnel are capable of executing catalyst handling projects even in the most challenging confined and hazardous working environments through compliance to strict health, safety, and environmental protection procedures.

DGC has successfully completed a number of catalyst handling projects in various countries around the world.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

DGC takes full responsibility for the entire catalyst handling process from unloading, screening to reloading.

  CATALYST    UNLOADING

Through excellent project planning, monitoring, control, communication, coordination, and management, DGC ensures that catalyst layers are separated according to age and (or) type without cross-contamination, harm to personnel, or the endangerment of the convertor’s structural integrity.

Special barriers are constructed inside converters for personnel movements while vacuuming to avoid catalyst damage. Vacuumation suction pressure and catalyst velocity are also carefully controlled by our team of experts to avoid catalyst breakage. In addition, the teams ensure that all-ceramic ball layers are vacuumed separately from the catalyst.

  CATALYST    SCREENING

Catalyst screening eliminates process dust, catalyst fines, and small catalyst particles that are generated over time and tend to affect catalyst reaction surface area as well as other process parameters. Screening is considered a critical factor in the success of an entire catalyst handling job as catalysts may easily be damaged by errors in the choice of equipment or settings. Our highly competent technical and field teams have successfully conducted several screening campaigns.

Plant data is collected prior to the works and proper screens mesh selection is done offsite. Continuous monitoring of screening conditions is observed in order to consistently ensure quality in every bag or drum. The team ensures that accumulations in the divisional plates under the grids are removed completely from pass to pass. The condition of the screening meshes is also continuously monitored throughout the screening process.

  CATALYST    LOADING

DGC performs both sock and dense catalyst loading. Like in every other stage of the catalyst handling process, quality assurance is given critical attention. Given the hygroscopic nature of catalysts, exposure to the environment is minimized at all costs.

Throughout the loading process, an even distribution of ceramic balls and catalysts on each bed in accordance with the loading diagram is closely monitored and ensured. The loading team puts in place all necessary measures to minimize catalyst breakages, channeling, and high pressure drops that may occur due to loading errors.

SAFETY

Safety is our highest priority. Catalyst Material Safety Data Sheets guides our team in the preparation of the essential safety consideration and controls. Strict and mandatory safety precautions are observed during the entire catalyst handing process. All the catalyst remains and the residue is stored in specific containers as recommended by local and international health, safety & environmental regulations.
